Northman Cowl

I designed this cowl last year for my big-headed brother, and then knit a second for my big headed, big shouldered and necked husbeast. I love how the textured, but super easy stitch pattern looks, especially when worn.

I got to try it out myself last night on my thin neck and shoulders and it was wonderful. I loved the height of it, though it could have been an inch or two smaller around for me, it still worked well. As you can see I could even pull it up over my hat to keep myself warmer while I pumped gas!

It was inspired by Eric Northman of the Southern Vampire series and I wrote the pattern in a simple to follow, row-by-row stitch diagram that leads you through 3 pattern sections seperated by simple garterstich.

The size may be adjusted by going up or down in needle size and using heavy or finer weight yarn. As is, it’s sized One Size Fits Most.

I used almost 2 balls of Lana Gatto Camel Hair yarn in navy for the first one, and less than one skein of Kramer Yarns' "Perfection" for the 2nd (pictured on me). Any similar DK weight yarn of around 250 yards would work.
